Health Net’s Innovative F Medigap plan

New Innovative Plan F Offers Hearing and Vision

by Katie Banks+ on Nov 12, 2019 | 6 Comments

Health Net of California announced today that they will be offering hearing and vision benefits as part of their new Innovative Plan F Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan.  Taking a page out of Anthem’s wildly popular Innovative F launched last year, Health Net has followed suit with their version of an Innovative F.

Health Net’s plan F includes all the benefits of a traditional Plan F but also includes the following benefits that are not covered by Medicare or other Medigap plans. As of July 1, 2020, a standardized plan and an Innovative plan are considered equal in benefits. This means if you have a standard F you can switch to Innovative F or F extra during the California Birthday Rule.

Can I move from Plan G to Plan F under the birthday rule without underwriting?

Judith,
The CA birthday rule only allows you to move to an equal or lessor benefits plan. Since Plan F covers the Part B deductible it is considered to offer more benefits than G, so you can switch from G to F without health review.

Seriously, please give us a call here at Senior65.com and we can help you to understand your options and get you on the right plan. We are very good at what we do and we charge nothing for our services.

Is Innovative F going away soon, just as plan F is?

Sue,
As we always say, Plan F is NOT going away. Anyone who is Medicare eligible before 2020 can enroll in Plan F and keep it for as long as they would like. The same goes for Innovative F. Those who turn 65 AFTER 2020 will not be able to purchase Innovative F.

I see Silver Sneakers is not part of this plan. Is there any type of exercise/gym membership benefit with this plan?

Carl,
Unfortunately, not with this plan. We recommend you look into Blue Shield F Extra, which has approximately the same benefits as Healthnet Innovative F and offers Silver Sneakers. You can also compare them here.

We can help you enroll and charge nothing for our services. Give us a call when you're ready.

Do I have to fill out a new application and be subject to underwriting? I am now a member using regular Plan F. If the new application is rejected, will my insurance be cancelled or continue under the old Plan F?

Manny,
Yes, you will have to complete a new application to move from Plan F to Innovative F. No, your old plan cannot be canceled if you are not approved on the new plan.

Please Note: HealthNet may allow you to move from F to their Innovative F without underwriting if you live in California as part of the birthday rule. Please give us a call and we can assist you with the application right over the phone.

Which is the best plan? Innovative F from Anthem, Innovative F from HealthNet or F extra from Blue Shield??

Gabriel,
Thanks for contacting us. Yes Blue Shield, Healthnet and Anthem all now offer Plan F coverage that includes some vision and hearing coverage in California. All are very similar so the one with the best price may be the best. You can get a quote here
