For a limited time, Blue Shield of California is allowing ANY current Medigap or Medicare Advantage plan holder to switch to Medicare Supplement Plan F Extra or Plan G Extra without answering medical questions.  So if you want to switch to a Medigap plan that has hearing aid and vision benefits, now is the time!

When can I enroll with no underwriting?

If you are looking to switch from another Medigap plan, the enrollment period starts December 1, 2019 and ends February 15, 2020. See below for details on how to switch.

Who can enroll without underwriting?

California applicants enrolled in ANY Medicare Advantage or Medigap plan may apply for enrollment into Plan F Extra and Plan G Extra without underwriting review or approval. Yes, any Medigap or Medicare Advantage plan qualifies!

What do Plan F Extra and Plan G Extra cover?

Plan F and G Extra covers everything traditional Medigap plans cover but with added vision and hearing aid benefits. Roughly two years ago, a few CA insurance providers started including additional hearing and vision benefits to the standardized Medigap Plan F. They called these plans Innovative F or F Extra to indicate that they included additional benefits.

Blue Shield’s Medigap F Extra has the same benefits as a traditional Medigap Plan F but includes hearing and vision benefits. Medigap G Extra, as you probably guessed, has the same benefits as a traditional Medigap Plan G but also includes hearing and vision benefits.
