Blue Shield is temporarily allowing existing Medigap members to enroll in their new Medigap Plan F Extra without underwriting approval. This is a rare opportunity as Blue Shield usually requires a health review before allowing members to switch to plan F Extra.
This opportunity ended on February 15th 2019. However, there is a new Blue Shield Underwriting Holiday in 2020.
Plan F Extra Underwriting Holiday for anyone on ANY letter Medicare Supplement Plan:
- Plan F Extra is exactly the same as Plan F but includes hearing aid, vision and Silver Sneaker gym benefits
- Applications must be received no later than 4/15/19. If you apply to switch to F Extra after February 15, 2019, you will be subject to health review.
- Ability to switch back to standard F or G (or any other plan) using the California Birthday Rule is always an option.
