Blue Shield Medicare Supplement

7 Medigap plans offered by Blue Shield of California

by Katie Banks+ on Jun 17, 2017 | 6 Comments

Blue Shield of California offers 7 Medicare Supplement Plans (AKA Medigap plans) to help cover many of the expenses not covered under traditional Medicare. You should consider Blue Shield plans for the 4 following reasons: 1) Competitive Rates, 2) Large Choice of Plans, 3) Easy Online Application, and 4) Blue Shield Special Enrollment Period

1) Competitive Rates offered by Blue Shield Medicare Supplement

The first thing you need to remember is that all Medigap plans with the same letter are identical in benefits so the plan’s price matters. Blue Shield over the years has offered some of the best rates for Medicare Supplemental insurance so they are worth considering. Additionally they offer a $25 a month discount to new members. Additionally you can get $3 off each month if you set up autopay when they withdraw your monthly medigap premium automatically each month.

Extra Extra Bonus: If you enroll in a Blue Shield dental plan at the time of enrollment, you will save an additional $3 a month!

2) Large Choice of Medicare Supplemental Plans offered by Blue Shield

Blue Shield offers a wide array of Medigap plans to meet your needs and budget. Here is a list currently available to new members:
• Plan A
• Plan C
• Plan D
• Plan F
• Plan F High Deductible
• Plan N
• Plan K

One plan everyone should consider is the Plan F high-deductible plan that Blue Shield offers. The High Deductible Plan F has the same benefits as regular Plan F except that High Deductible Plan F has a $2,200 calendar-year deductible, while Plan F has no plan deductible. It is significantly less expensive than the traditional part F and has all the same protection after you hit the deductible. Many top providers do not offer a plan F high deductible plan and it is worth considering.

3) Blue Shield has the Easiest Online Application

On this point we cannot claim to be unbiased as we developed the Blue Shield online application available here.  When we first saw the paper application we wondered how anyone could figure out all questions and successfully submit it. We developed a simple application that acts as a wizard to help you quickly complete the application in less than 5 minutes.

4) Blue Shield has a Special Enrollment Period

If you have any other Medigap plan in California and want to switch to Blue Shield, you can during Blue Shield’s Special Enrollment Period. What’s so special about this time is, you don’t have to answer medical questions to join a plan of equal or lesser benefits.

If you have any questions, please call us at the number above.

What plan (A, B, C, D, E, F, ...) is equal to the Blue Shield 65+ Medicare Advantage?

Blue Shield 65+ is a Medicare Advantage plan and NOT a Medicare Supplement plan (Medigap Plan). It doesn't have a plan letter as you asked above. Please view our Medigap VS Medicare Advantage section to learn more.

what is Medicare Select?

Medicare Supplement Select, aka Medigap Select, has a network of hospitals and facilities, and sometimes doctors, you must use. Whereas, a traditional Medigap plan works with Medicare's nationwide network of doctors and hospitals. Hope this helps!

I have Medicare Part A and B and Blue Shield of California Medicare Supplement Pan F. My question is : am I covered to receive a flu shot "high dose" that Walgreen's is offering for $59.99 ? Kindly reply ASAP as I'm travelling on Tuesday, September 22 and would like to receive that immunization at the very latest Monday, September 21. Thank you for a prompt reply.

Thank you for your question. While we do know that most Medicare enrollees receive $0 flu shots, we don't know if the "high dose" flu shot is covered the same way. We suggest calling the number on the back of your red, white, and blue card to ask for specific coverage or your pharmacist may be able to find out how you are covered for you. Wish you the best!
