Medicare Open Enrollment Options

During Open Enrollment Medicare, the period that runs from October 15 through December 7, seniors are able to switch from their Original Medicare plan to a Medicare Advantage plan, and vice versa. It is important to remember this does not mean this period is open game for Medigap plans. Medigap plans, in most states, have a one time open enrollment or Medicare Supplemental Special Enrollment Period (SEP).

Medicare vs. Medicare Advantage

The choice is really up to you. If you are on a tight budget MA plans offer great benefits like gym membership, Rx coverage, dental and vision -generally at no extra cost, but with a limited network. While Medicare doesn’t offer these extra benefits it does have the largest nationwide network, and if you have a little extra money each month a Medicare, Medigap, Rx combo might be the right choice for you.
