My wife is enrolled in medigap Land Medicare, she was just diagnosed with stage four brain cancer. She is starting hospice care will medigap L cover respite care? I'm just trying to figure all the costs in this horrible time.

Edwin,
Medigap L will cover 75% of the 5% that Original Medicare leaves behind. It makes your head turn to do the math, but it should leave you with 1.25% to pay. Since respite care can vary from facility to facility, we wouldn't be able to give you an exact dollar amount. Hope this helps in your research.

My mother is in hospice care and I'm her usual caretaker. My daughter's just had a baby and the christening is happening, I would like to take the time off to go see her. Will respite care cover my break?

Paulie,
Respite care is for the caretaker, and many times the caretaker is family. Medicare should cover this break for you. Of course, you should contact your hospice doctor to confirm.
