Over the years, Blue Shield of California has announced a period for Medicare Supplement plans (Medigap). Under the temporary offer, most applicants can switch to a Blue Shield Medicare Supplement without a medical history review. This is known as an Underwriting Holiday.

In 2017, the offer only allowed those who had a Medigap plan to take advantage of the “free switch.” In 2020, they expanded the underwriting holiday to Medicare Advantage members as well. In 2023, it required that you switch to G Extra or G Inspire. Blue Shield may plan to offer this in the future but we never know exactly when. Those who want to take advantage of this option must
- See if the offer is active. It usually takes place for 1 or 2 months each year and almost always at the end of the year. Call us to confirm when the offer is available.
